Principal Susan Leon-Leigh has left her position at the school for a new post as Director of Professional Development Standards and Support, which is part of the Office of Academics.

Leon-Leigh served as Assistant Principal of Coral Springs High School from 2005 through 2008 before being named principal.

The district has not yet named a replacement as of this printing, but seven candidates have applied for the position, including Assistant Principal Patty Brown and Assistant Principal John Murphy.

While Leon-Leigh will be missed, students and faculty alike were hopeful about the change in leadership.

Junior Jaylynn Fisher hopes that the new principal will be an advocate for students.

“I hope whoever takes over is someone who will really listen to us students. We have a lot to say about what our school should be like. I’d like it to be someone who is friendly and out-going and likes to have fun with the students,” Fisher said.

Assistant Principal Michael Marhefka was equally optimistic about having a new leader.

“I hope our new principal will be a strong leader; a people-person; someone who is open to ideas and is willing to work with our faculty and students,” Marhefka said.

Some students were concerned about who would take over for Leon-Leigh.

“I didn’t know her personally but she did a lot of good things for our school. It has really grown under her leadership. I hope the new principal will work as hard to keep our school at the forefront,” freshman Isabella Alfano.
